Bartow Elementary Academy was established in 1993-94 as a magnet school for the purpose of desegregation of elementary schools in the greater Bartow area. Bartow Academy revised its magnet program to a focus on STEM as a result of the district being awarded a Magnet Schools Assistance Program Grant from the Department of Education in 2010.
Each January, Polk County releases an Open Enrollment for the school. During this time period, parents are allowed to apply for their children. After the application is completed, parents have to wait and see if their child is selected. Results are issued in the spring. Students who are not selected through this initial lottery process can reapply the following year.
Our STEM focus is an interdisciplinary approach to learning where rigorous academic concepts are coupled with real-world lessons as students apply science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in all aspects of the curriculum. Our campus utilizes a technology infused curriculum that focuses on complex thinking skills to solve problems in cooperative settings. At Bartow Elementary Academy we strive to create a safe brain-friendly environment for our students to construct projects artistically, physically, and intellectually. In addition to the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math centered curriculum, our students have access to a high tech STEM lab, a state-of-the-art outdoor sustainable classroom, and guest speakers with real life examples of curriculums application.
Our school's mission is to ensure that we are a family partnership dedicated to preparing and inspiring learners to be productive global citizens. Our desire is for each individual to cooperate with others using essential life skills, cutting edge technology, and creative hands-on experiences in building tomorrow's leaders today. At Bartow Elementary Academy we believe everyone can achieve!
